Ahead of the the brand new television series premiering Thursday 30th November at 4:30pm on Disney XD, MTV International went behind the scenes on an EXCLUSIVE visit to the Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California, and spoke to Executive Producers Mark McCorkle, Bob Schooley and Nick Filipp on an exciting production studio tour.
Here are 9 things you need to know about Disney XD's 'Big Hero 6: Baymax Returns'...
1 - The Animation Style May Not Be What You Expect...
Right from the get go, McCorkle, Schooley and Filippi were captivated by the simplistic charm of 2D animation, with Schooley explaining: '“It’s essentially 101 Dalmatians meets modern Japanese Anime. We've merged those two aesthetic approaches to come up with a look for our backgrounds, with the animation team also exploring Japanese woodblock printmaking from the early 20th century, which brought a lot of the detail into backgrounds as well. We wanted something that had a graphic feel that the animators could really latch on to, but also the warmth of the hand-drawn pencil line.”
2 - New series, new locations...
We're not just getting new storylines, we're also getting NEW Neighbourhoods! New locations in the series include Nobu Hill, Night Market Square, Good Luck Ally and Fishtown. Pack your bags people!

3 - Stan Lee will be making an appearance...
The Marvel titan WILL be making a cameo in the TV sequel to the Oscar-winning film and we couldn't be more excited! Executive producer Mark McCorkle confirmed that THE Stan Lee will be present in the Big Hero 6 TV sequel hinting that we may however have to wait slightly later on into the series until we get to see the legend himself.
"Somebody we’re very excited that we brought back, Stan Lee who plays Fred’s dad in that little after credit sequence. The back story is that he was a superhero in the past and he gets to be the voice of wisdom from Fred, and then a particular episode for Hiro."
4 - Yes, there will be Easter Eggs ...
Bob Schooley explained how the Easter Eggs will be appearing in the series: “We do have a lot of Easter eggs … selfishly within the world of our show.” HOORAH!
5 - It starts where the movie left off...
If a tear rolled when the credits rolled back in 2014, then frown no more! The new Series will continue right from where it left off as McCorkle explained: “We thought that a story of getting the team and Baymax back together would be fun.” The new special paves the way for a full series which will premiere on Disney XD in early 2018.

6 - S is for Science...
The movie's theme of “Science and learning are positive things—and that’s how you solve problems.” The theme throughout the series has always come back to one thing and that has been science. Filippi explained: “Being heroic and being a good person is the ultimate theme of the series, but there’s something nice about saying ‘It’s cool to learn. It’s cool to be smart.”
A seventh new recruit will be joining The Big Hero 6 team in the form of science. Nick Fillipi added: "Unlike some superhero shows, we’re showing real science. Most kids take science for granted, but we’re hoping that maybe some of them will see what Hiro and his friends are doing and start looking things up."
Being smart is a superpower!
7 - New Villains...
Expect a whole host of contrasting Villains in the new series, with Schooley explaining: "We have a good mixture on the gender front and we have a number of female villains too." Bob shared the details of one particualar villain as he added: "Katy Mixon (American Housewife) plays half of an 80's themed mother-daughter dance crime team called High Voltage. She's hilarious."
Some of the villains will have comedic personalties whereas others will be more villainous.
Mark McCorkle: "When we first developed this show, what the kids responded to was that there was a variety, that some of the villains are sillier and slightly more comedic, and some are more serious and threatening. I think in a weird way if it has all been one or the other, it would get a little too repetitious."
8 - The episodes are set to explore each character in much greater depth...
'Baymax Returns' will allow us to become much close to each of the characters, something we weren't able to do in the movie. McCorkle explained: "The first couple of episodes we did a spot light on Fred and a spotlight on Go Go and Honey Lemon. We felt like we knew that Hiro and Baymax were the heart of this franchise. So we knew that would be the big thrust for the series, but as fans we got to see so little of those other characters in the movie. It was fun to say, okay, let’s do more with them."
9 - A second series is already confirmed...
The production team are already hard at work on season two with the second series currently in production. In fact, 30 episodes have already been created for the following series!
