Pixar and Disney have long taken inspiration from nature’s weirder and more wonderful characters to populate their animated movies with all manner of adorableness.

And now nature’s gone one better.

Scientists aboard the E/V Nautilus caught the living cuddly toy stubby squid during an exploration trip along the ocean floor of the Californian coastline, and everyone pretty much lost their cool as the camera panned around to spot the googly-eyed beauty.

Just look at his ridiculous little face.

As if he wasn’t cute enough, listening to the sound of a group of scientists simultaneously devolve into squeaky noises is pretty darn grin-inducing.
