District 9 Tops US Film Chart

Sci-fi film District 9 has gone straight to number one on the US box office.
The movie- which stars unknown South African actors- took $37m at cinemas over its first weekend beating releases including G.I Joe and The Time Traveller’s Wife.
District 9 is about aliens landing in South Africa and is directed by Neil Blomkamp.
Although it’s Blomkamp’s first feature the film is produced by Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson.
Vanessa Hudgens new movie Bandslam failed to make the Top 10 at the US box office.
District 9 is due for release in the UK on September 9.
