The Divergent Series: Ascendant Could Skip Cinemas And Become A TV Spin Off
But we want cinema-sized Theo James abs!
The Divergent Series: Ascendant, the upcoming fourth and final part of Veronica Roth's big screen novel adaptation, might now see the light of day as television movie and spinoff series rather than getting a full on cinema release.
Variety is reporting today that 'an individual with knowledge of the situation', says negotiations are in the early stages but instead of Ascendant opening in movie theatres next summer as planned, Lionsgate wants to wrap it all up on the small screen following the disappointing takings the previous film Allegiant suffered at the box office last year.
THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING.
If it were to hit cinema screens in June 2017, it would be up against the reboot of The Mummy as well as World War Z 2, but now the bosses are rethinking things. Grumble.
Lionsgate haven't commented yet, and it's not known if stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort would return, so yeah, we're pretty much in the dark as much as you are right now.
What do you think? Is it DAUNT-ing prospect to think Divergent might end on TV or are you glad it might get even more life as a full on series? Let us know @MTVUK.
In the meantime let's console ourselves by re-living 29 Theo James looked hot AF:
