DJ Griff: "Phones Are The New Vinyl!"
The Manumission resident explains what his new Walkman phone has done for his DJing
DJ Griff has embraced mobile phone technology as the future of DJing and he's very excited about it.
Speaking in an interview with MTV, the superstar DJ - a resident and main man at the mighty Manumission - praised his Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman phone, which he used as a DJing tool over the summer. "As a DJ it (the W800i) adds a whole different dimension to what I do," said Giff.
"I can transfer music from my CDs easily and more importantly quickly onto my phone, letting me listen to music on-the-go. I can also arrange my playlists as well, so when I reach the club I know how Im going to do my set.
"Obviously I still use vinyl and CDs as part of my set, but the phones such a great back up. I did a gig once in India, got to the club and the decks were broken... a great solution would have been to hook up the W800i up to speakers, which is what we did in Manumission, Ibiza, this summer.
"We connected two Walkman phones to our speakers using base-sensitive fibre-optic cable arms and I was able to mix various tunes in using the phones."
Watch out vinyl.
