The Internet Reacts To Benedict Cumberbatch Being Doctor Strange

The tweets, memes and gags have been coming thick and fast...

Superman might be faster than a speeding train, but there's no way the man of steel could outpace the fan reaction to the news that Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed as Doctor Strange.

Although the casting had already been widely reported, comic book fans and "Cumberb*tches" alike were thrilled by the news that the Sherlock star will portray the Sorceror Supreme on the big screen.

Can't believe the 1st rumours were before #sdcc but at last the best news #BenedictCumberbatch officially @DrStrange pic.twitter.com/zF1h9aXZYU

One fan, @MaryChucky wrote: "Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. strange! I'm so happyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!"

While @danactual wrote: "Cumberbatch is perfect as @drstrange. Can't wait to see him bring the Sorcerer Supreme to life and be on screen with the other Avengers."

But @FreyjaMazurra refused to give up on her own personal dream: "i still have this tiny bit of hope that keanu reeves will be dr. strange but cumberbatch's not bad either."

Not all the comments were positive of course (we are talking about the internet here), and @catvincent offered this comment: "I mean, sure Cumberbatch *can* manage Stephen Strange - if there's one thing he can play, it's smart arrogance - but it's a bland choice."

I mean, sure Cumberbatch *can* manage Stephen Strange - if there’s one thing he can play, it’s smart arrogance - but it’s a bland choice.

Along with a flurry of excited tweets, fans also produced their own visual interpretations of what 38-year-old Cumberbatch might look like as the mystical superhero.

And Den Of Geek made a smart observation which could give a clue about what to expect after the credits of Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

It tweeted: "Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed as Doctor Strange, just in time for extra shooting on Avengers 2. Coincidence, surely."
