Matt Smith: 50th Anniversary Episode Celebrates Doctors

Current Time Lord discusses Doctor Who special and previous stars...

Matt Smith has declared that the eagerly awaited Doctor Who 50th anniversary special will "celebrate" the previous inhabitants of the Tardis.
Speaking to SFX, the current star of the show paid tribute to his predecessors as he discussed the one-off episode - which is [uuid=223086e9-03f5-4ac4-be46-b0c10edc050a]expected to be feature-length and in 3D[/uuid].

He said: "It's about looking back and forward at the same time, a bit like the Doctor does.
"It's about celebrating everyone that's been involved with it, all the wonderful actors that have taken part before me, and it's also about looking forward."
And he praised some of the previous stars of the show by name, including the last two Doctors, David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston.
"I feel in a very privileged position, having had people like David and Chris, Tom [Baker], Patrick [Troughton], Jon [Pertwee], William Hartnell... great, great actors behind me."
Show boss Steven Moffat has previously pledged that the anniversary show will not be a "fanfest".
"We can't make this all about looking backwards," he declared. "It's actually got to be the start of a new story."
The current series of the sci-fi drama [uuid=5a24b8c8-8202-471f-81d9-21439b032d17]returns to BBC One on Saturday[/uuid] after a very long mid-season break.
