Peter Capaldi has given Doctor Who fans their first glimpse of his costume for the Time Lord's 12th regeneration.

The new Doctor will wear a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, white shirt and black Dr Marten shoes.




Put together by BBC costume designer Howard Burden - in collaboration with the 55-year-old star - the new outfit is more low-key than those worn by many previous Doctors.

"He's woven the future from the cloth of the past," Capaldi stated.

"Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent rebel Time Lord."

Capaldi, who took over from Matt Smith at Christmas, was earlier reported to have been clothes shopping himself in the search for an outfit.
