See Preview Images From Doctor Who Season Eight

The Doctor, Clara and Madame Vastra feature in new pics from BBC...

The BBC has teased fans of Doctor Who with four new snaps from the forthcoming eighth series of the long-running sci-fi drama.

New Doctor Peter Capaldi is seen wearing Matt Smith's clothes in one of the pics, while he and assistant Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) have a more Victorian look in two of the other images.

And the fourth snap shows fan favourite Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) gesturing at a pin board.

Meanwhile show boss Steven Moffat has been sharing Capaldi's thinking on his look as the Doctor.

He told SFX: "He wanted to be quite stark. Stark and skinny. A stick-insect sort of thing. Clara actually calls him a grey-haired stick insect at one point.

"We had some hilarious pictures of Peter just dressing up. It was all coming from him because he's really into his clothes. I didn't feel qualified to go and chat too much about it.

"Certainly the costume didn't go anywhere until I shut up. The thing I've learned about showrunning is you need to know the bits you're bad at!"

The show returns on 23 August.
