The Unthinkable Has Happened: Drake’s ‘One Dance’ Is No Longer No. 1 Thanks To Major Lazer, Justin Bieber And MØ

We can't believe it either...

After breaking Wet Wet Wet’s heart last week by crushing their 15-week chart record, the unthinkable has happened. Drake and the all-conquering ‘One Dance’ is no longer Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. What could possibly topple the Six God you ask? Well it took three big names, three noble groups of challengers, three brave gladiators, to usurp him, and they got by the names of: Major Lazer (a trio, we know), Justin Bieber and MØ.

Yep, ‘Cold Water’ is our new Number 1 and already you can feel the difference. Walk around outside, speak to a stranger. There’s an air in the UK today that anything could happen. That anything is possible.

Now that the second-longest consecutive stint in the UK Singles Chart’s history is over, and that the true record holder Bryan Adams can sleep well at night once more, we can take a moment to congratulate our new lords and commanders. Notching up 102,000 combined sales to take the top spot, including 5.56 million streams and 47,000 downloads, ‘Cold Water’ is Major Lazer and MØ's first Number 1 single and Justin's fourth.

Of course, we should also extend our commiserations to Drizzy. You make incredible music and we love you. It is about time we let someone else have a go with this Number One thing though, isn’t it? Seemed unfair for Drake to take all the top spot love.

Anyway, here’s another doozy of a fact that you can use to wow your friends later: ‘Cold Water’ is the second single to shoot straight to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart this year - Zayn’s debut solo offering ‘Pillowtalk’ debuted at the top back in February.

Official Singles Chart Top 5:

1. Major Lazer ft. Justin Bieber and MØ – ‘Cold Water’

2. Jonas Blue ft. JP Cooper – ‘Perfect Strangers’

3. Calum Scott – ‘Dancing On My Own’

4. Chainsmokers ft. Daya – ‘Don’t Let Me Down’

5. Drake – ‘One Dance’
