Dwayne Johnson has revealed he will be starring in The Janson Directive.

The Fast & Furious actor tweeted the news, confirming rumours he will take on the role in the Universal Pictures film.

[related]Based on Robert Ludlum's novel, the film follows and ex-Navy SEAL who's targeted by the U.S. government after being involved in a mission that went horribly wrong.

Similar to the Bourne series, The Janson Directive focuses on a hero wronged by the government and its conspiracies, forcing him to work outside of the law in order to clear his name.

Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman will write the script, having previously worked on projects such as I Am Legend and A Beautfiul Mind.
