Eats Everything: "I Would Never Work With Bieber!”

EXCLUSIVE! The DJ talks becoming a cover star and the rise of house…

When MTV caught up with Bristol based producer/DJ Eats Everything - otherwise known as Dan Pearce - at Snowbombing Festival in Mayrhofen, we asked if he would ever work with or do a remix for Justin Bieber… and before we could even finish the sentence he cut us off, saying:

“Not a chance. I would NEVER in a million years. Justin Bieber... no chance.”

So, a collaboration with the Beauty And A Beat singer is out the window, but we also asked Dan what he makes of house music’s recent progression from the underground into the UK charts, with artists like Disclosure at the forefront of the movement:

“Disclosure are very good friends of mine. I’ve known them for about two years, and they’re a lovely pair of guys. Obviously Duke Dumont has a number 1 and the underground house movement is clearly becoming more and more mainstream, which I think is good in a way as it introduces that kind of music to the masses. It could be bad for me though, because I might become commercial… I should probably start making acid techno!”

Rather than just focusing on his own productions, Eats Everything has also been collaborating with other artists:

“I’m working on some more kind of ‘underground pop’ at the moment. A Bristol based producer called Yasmin. It’s not completely out of my comfort zone, but it doesn’t sound like Eats Everything. It’s good!”

Dan, who reckons DJs “have always been the new rock stars”, also talked about his appearance on the front cover of Mixmag, alongside his label mates from Dirtybird:

“Appearing on the front cover of Mixmag was something I never thought would happen to me. I’m an idiot from Bristol, who’s been trying to do what I’m doing for 20 years, and all of a sudden I’m doing all right!

"The Dirtybird people are the nicest guys on the planet, they’re so much fun and they know how to party. The music’s great, the people are great and to be on the cover of a publication I’ve been reading for 20 years is just unbelievable. I’ve got it up on my wall in a little frame like a mummy’s boy!”

So, at which festivals can you catch Eats Everything this summer?

“I’ve been a right slag this year! I’m playing literally every festival there is going! I’ve got a full Ibiza schedule too. I’m really, really looking forward to it… I’m also playing Farr Festival. I played it last year, it’s only little but the vibe’s great and the people are great, it’s just a really, really good party so I’m looking forward to it.

Justin Martin and I have got plans for an album to come out early next year, and then we’re going to tour that. I’m also working with TEED and Catz ‘N Dogz. It’s going to be a good year! I’m a lucky boy.”

We want to find out if Dan still gets hassled when he’s DJing, and it turns out he has a little message for those request makers among you:

"It happens all the time! Please people - phones with tracks on when you’re trying to DJ are the most annoying things! Those records you’re requesting? They’re going to get played! So just let us play them! Let it happen! It WILL happen - I’m playing for 3 hours! The smart phone is the bane of a DJ’s life."

And finally, we asked Eats Everything about his three favourite tracks of the moment:

"My edit of Breach’s Jack, dBridge’s remix of Supernova and Justin Martin and Ardalan Wheelgunner."
