Ed Sheeran Fights Himself For No.1 This Friday

And could break a chart record in the process...

Ed Sheeran's comeback is about to make chart history - both of his brand new singles 'Castle On The Hill' and 'Shape Of You' have made HUGE new entries to the Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart and he could be both No.1 AND No.2 by Friday.

According to today's Official Chart Update, Ed's about to end Clean Bandit'snine week chart-topping reign with 'Shape Of You' at No.1 followed closely by 'Castle On The Hill' at No.2. If he manages it, he'll be the first artist to enter the Official Singles Chart at No.1 and No.2 with two brand new tracks.

Thank god he didn't give 'Shape Of You' to Rihanna in the end!

Over the weekend Ed took to social media to say he's"truly overwhelmed with the reaction to these new songs. I've never had anything like this, thank you for all your wonderful messages.

"Now please blast them out as loud as you can from every speaker you can find as many times as you can!"

Seems to have done the trick...

Elsewhere in today's midweek update, there's more mighty climbers. First up, MTV Brand New For 2017 nominee JP Cooper climbs into the Top 10 at No.7 with 'September Song', while Starley climbs 18 places to No.8 with 'Call On Me'.

Jax Jones and RAYE (also a Brand New nominee FYI) leap 24 places to No.9 with their Booka Shade & M.A.N.D.Y-sampling banger 'You Don't Know Me' as well.
