Ed Sheeran has launched his own record label and you’ll just LOVE what he’s called it.
The 'Thinking Out Loud' singer confirmed that he’s landed a deal with Warner Music Group to launch his label Gingerbread (yep, we told you it was pretty awesome!) where he will help new acts break into the industry.
Sheeran told Nova FM: “I've set up my first record label, it's called Gingerbread and [British singer-songwriter] Jamie Lawson is my first signing. I wanted Australia to be the launch pad because Australia is a country that I feel would really really dig Jamie.
"I'm going to focus on this when I'm on tour next year. Hopefully the acts will be up and running by the time I take time off."
Ed claimed he decided to help launch new acts after finding singer-songwriter Passenger, explaining: “The first time I properly thought about it was when I took Passenger on tour for two years.
“I took him into my record company and played them the record but they didn’t get it. Then I was too busy on my own stuff and I let it slide.
And I can't sweep you off of your feet
Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love?
Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?
And, darling, I will
Be loving you 'til we're 70
And, baby, my heart
Could still fall as hard at 23
And I'm thinking 'bout how
People fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand
Well me, I fall in love with you every single day
And I just wanna tell you I am
So, honey, now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I'm thinking out loud
Maybe we found love right where we are
When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades
And the crowds don't remember my name
When my hands don't play the strings the same way, mhm
I know you will still love me the same
'Cause, honey, your soul
Could never grow old, it's evergreen
And, baby, your smile's
Forever in my mind and memory
I'm thinking 'bout how
People fall in love in mysterious ways
And maybe it's all part of a plan
Well, I'll just keep on making the same mistakes
Hoping that you'll understand
That, baby, now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I'm thinking out loud
And maybe we found love right where we are
So, baby, now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Oh, darling, place your head on my beating heart
I'm thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we are
Oh, baby, we found love right where we are
And we found love right where we are
"Then he had a worldwide number one hit. After that, everyone was like, 'Maybe Ed does know what he's talking about'."
The 24-year old went on to add that he hopes his worldwide success can help those artists who are yet to have their lucky break, stating: “There are people on that scene who make me look terrible by just being so good. They haven't got the right platform.
"I have a tour and Twitter, so I can put them in front of my fans instantly. I can sit down with heads of radio stations and ask whether they'll play it on the radio. I'm in a really fortunate position to be able to break acts."
Who better to learn from after Ed’s sophomore LP recently surpassed the 2 million sales mark in the UK? Sheeran, we salute you!
