Ed Sheeran Hints At New Album Release With Cryptic Date Tweet

Singer took to Twitter to write '7/4/14' sparking speculation that fans can expect new music soon...

We may finally have a firm release date for Ed Sheeran's eagerly anticipated second album.

The Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter posted a cryptic note to fans early Thursday morning (March 20) that seems to hint that fans may be able to expect he's about to blow up our spring.

The I See Fire singer took to Twitter to simply write: "7/4/14".

Ed recently revealed that he's penned "about 120 songs" for his new LP, explaining on Ryan Seacrest radio show: "I wrote a lot of stuff. Over the course of the year, I wrote 120 songs.

"I was in America for 11 1/2 months, which as an Englishman is quite hard to do. I missed tea.I loved it, I lived in Nashville for six months, L.A. for three months and New York for two months and it was good.

"I wrote a lot of stuff, I wrote the whole of this next record, I wrote the whole of the next, the whole of the next."

He went on: "America is one these countries where you have a lot of experiences and meet a lot of people. It's not just rapping about rope chains and such, there are songs that are inspired by Nashville."

In addition to that news, Sheerios were psyched to find out on Wednesday that Ed will appear on Saturday Night Live on April 12 as the musical guest alongside host Seth Rogen. He also promised to play some new music duirng the show.

A spokesperson for Ed could not be reached by MTV News US for comment to confirm the album's release date.
