As the most romantic human to walk the earth since Noah from The Notebook, it's no surprise that both the women and men of the internet had a mini freak out when a picture surfaced that seemed to show Ed Sheeran wearing a weddingring this week.

With Ed off doing an Eat, Pray, Love and finding himself at the moment, he's been out of the public eye since Christmas but has been spotted here and there on his world travels. In that time, he seems to have got pretty serious with girlfriend Cherry Seaborn and the couple recently celebrated their one year anniversary with a smooch at Tayor Swift's 4th of July party over in Rhode Island.

But now a pic of Ed has popped up on Instagram as he continues his gap year travels and there's a rather curious silver ring on the fourth finger of his left hand, naturally leading everyone to wonder if a secret wedding has been on the cards.

Aside from being gutted about being invited along to make the most of the free buffet, this does perhaps seem a little fast for things to have progressed into full wedding mode. But frankly it's not often that male celebrities have to deal with engagement rumours, so we're kind of enjoying all the media speculation about Eduardo having tied the knot in secret.

Still, there's no need to get out your black veil of mourning just yet as there's more to this than meets the eye.

As this is 2016 and not 1816, wearing a ring on your wedding finger no longer means you are 100% married and instead it looks like Ed was probably just making a fashion statement. In fact, one beady-eyed Twitter user even noted that he's worn the same ring before, just on a different finger.

With that in mind it seems a little unlikely that Cherry's made an honest man out of Ed just yet, but the internet freak outs everyone are having are still kinda hilarious.

We have to say we're a little disappointed Ed hasn't got married, purely because you know the videos of the first dance would be so romantic that we'd probably all die just watching it.
