Ed Sheeran Has Sold 232,000 Copies Of '÷' In ONE DAY (That's More Than 'X' Did In A WEEK)

We could be in for a record-breaking week here, people...

We knew Ed Sheeran was going to sell a lot of copies of his brand new album'÷' this week but if yesterday's sales are anything to go by, Ed could go onto smash chart records come Friday. After just one day on sale, Ed has shifted 232,000 physical and digial copies of 'Divide'. That's more than his previous album 'x' sold in its opening WEEK. And the figure hasn't even taken audio streams into account yet!

Ben Cook, President, Atlantic Records UK, commented to OfficialCharts.com: "Ed is an artist that inspires a generation, and the release of 'Divide 'is a global event. It's great to see so many people across the world respond to this brilliant new work in such an unprecedented manner.

"As the way we release music changes, Ed continues to shape culture and how it evolves. It’s early days, but we’re really excited to see what we can achieve alongside Ed and his management on what is an outstanding landmark record."

It's almost certain Ed will knock Stormzy from No.1 on the Official Albums Chart on Friday but can he beat the record set by Adele back in 2015? When the 'Hello' superstar released her third album '25', it became the UK's biggest selling album ever, after she sold a staggering 800,307 copies, giving her the highest opening week sales in Official Chart history.

Meanwhile, over on Spotify,Ed's been obliterating records left, right and centre. He's had the best first day for an album with 56,727,861 streams, beating the previous record holder The Weeknd who boasted 29m streams in November last year.

Shape Of You has had the best one day streams for a track (10,123,630) beating his own record from 6th January of 7,940,950. Plus he's just secured the best one day streams for an artist with 68,695,172, beating (again) The Weeknd who had 40.3m streams last November too.

We are not worthy.
