Gulp. Ed Sheeran Has SIXTEEN Songs In The Midweek Top 40
That's the whole album.
Ed Sheeran's new album ÷ (Divide) has invaded The Official UK Singles Chart Top 40 with all 16 songs taking hold within the list. We might as well rename it The Official UK Ed Sheeran Chart.
In today's Official Chart Update, it's a blitz of Sheeran with the Top 10 alone boasting NINE songs. NINE. The only survivor is The Chainsmokers & Coldplay who've slipped to No.5 with 'Something Just Like This'.
'Shape Of You' is still holding strong at No.1 while 'Galway Girl' (No.3), 'Perfect' (No.4), 'New Man' (No.6), 'Dive' (No.7), 'Happier' (No.8) and 'Supermarket Flowers' (No.9) seem to be the nation's faves so far, all featuring in the Top 10.
All but one of Ed's songs are also in the Top 20. This is big. If Ed carries on like this he'll be the first artist ever to have his entire album featured in the UK Top 40 Singles Chart.
It goes without saying that ÷ is leading the charge in the Official Albums Chart too.
Over the weekend we discovered that Ed sold more copies of ÷ in one day than he sold in x's first week. At this stage, his midweek sales tally is 432,000. To put that in perspective, the biggest one week total of any album in 2016 was David Bowie's Blackstar which sold 143,455.
Ed's well on course to smash half a million sales but he's got some way to go if he's going to beat Adele, who currently holds the title for the biggest opening week of an album when 25 logged 800,307 sales back in November 2015.
Check back on Friday at 6pm when we'll find out the real picture of just how well this album has done for the guy.
In the meantime, watch our exclusive interview with Ed talking about how he thinks Divide is his best work to date, the emotional story behind 'Supermarket Flowers' and more here.
