MTV Review | Ed Sheeran Sings The Roof Off Camden's Roundhouse

Don't singer delivers magical five-star performance as this year's iTunes Festival draws to a close...

Following the worldwide success of his second album X, it was Ed Sheeran's turn to grace the stage at Camden's Roundhouse on the penultimate night of this year's iTunes Festival.

Feeling: After a particularly mellow set from Foy Vance, the audience eagerly awaited Ed's grand entrance. As the infamous countdown clock begun, the mood inside the walls of the Roundhouse lifted in anticipation for our favourite red-head, who coyly waltzed onto the stage to a roar of applause. "My name's Ed Sheeran and I'm here to entertain you for the next two hours", he exclaimed - much to the delight of those present.

The Look: Dressed casually in jeans, a navy T-shirt and his now trademark red checked shirt, Sheeran proved that less is more when it comes to his show, for he didn't need no fancy props or set to make it special. With just his guitar and trusty loop pedal for company -plus the help of some pretty cool graphics behind him -Ed kept things minimalistic from start to finished.

Tunes: His set was riddled with tracksfrom X, kicking off proceedings with fan favourites I'm A Mess and Don't, while also showing off his rapping skills on Take It Back. Thinking Out Loud, One, Rudimental co-writtentune Bloodstream and I See Fire also went down particularly well, as did old favourites Lego House, Drunk and Give MeLove - with Ed even turning us all into choir 'singers' for the night with himself as our conductor.

Ed even spruced up some of his older hits with snippets of Chris Brown's Loyal, Blackstreet's No Diggity and Backstreet Boys' Everybody, winning over those who may not have been fans before. But, it was his encore that really ignited something in the crowd as Ed belted out an impressive version of You Need Me, I Don't Need You and debut single The ATeam, before wrapping his set with No.1 smash hit Sing. And sing we did as Sheeran walked off stage as quietly as he had entered, leaving the crowd begging for more.

Banter: Sheeran interacted with his audience throughout, talking us through the writing process and stories behind his tunes, even standing on a speaker at one point to see his adoring audience. Ed vowed we would go home without our voices, splitting the crowd in two during Give MeLove, providing backing vocals for him as he belted out the tune. He also asked for fans to take out their phones (not that they needed much encouragement) and put the flash on which created a beautiful scene of twinkly lights.

Special Guests: Sheeran welcomed Foy back to the stage to perform his tune Guiding Light -which they wrote together - providinga special moment for fans of both artists.

[related]Sweat Factor: You could literally see the beads of sweat pouring off Ed by the end of his set, with the star especially put to work when furiously rapping his way through You Need Me, I Don't Need You- which came complete with lots of 'My eyes are red' chanting, much to the delight of some long-time Sheerios.

Summary: Ed's iTunes show proved that you don't need fancy lasers and glitter to put on an impressive display, just passion, raw emotion and one heck of a versatile voice (plus the help of the crowd of course).Whether it be belting out a tune, spitting some lyrics or entertaining his audience, Sheeran showed why his X LPhas dominated the album chart this year - putting on a gig oozing with sheer class and magic. Let's just say Ed got his wish, and we've definitely left our voice at the Roudhouse.
