Professor Stephen Hawking has congratulated Eddie Redmayne on his amazing Oscar win.

Redmayne took home the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Hawking in The Theory Of Everything at last night's star-studded ceremony.

The movie depicts the scientist's life over three decades, including his diagnosis with motor neurone disease and his marriage to Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones).

"Well done Eddie, I'm very proud of you."

Redmayne saw off competition from Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Michael Keaton (Birdman), Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) and Steve Carrell (Foxcatcher) to take home the coveted Best Actor award.
