X-Men Star Ellen Page Comes Out As Gay - Watch

Stars tweet support after actress makes emotional speech at event in Las Vegas...

X-Men star Ellen Page has come out during a speech at an event for LGBT youth.

The star of the upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past told the audience that she had made the decision in the hope that others would have an 'easier' time, writes The Hollywood Reporter.

In the deeply personal speech, she said: "I’m here today because I am gay. And because maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.

"I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain."

Following the speech, actor Emile Hirsch responded on Twitter, saying: "Props to @EllenPage for helping so many people through their daily struggles by courageously leading by example and coming out on V Day!"
