Elton John Sends Bestival Goers Home Rocking!

REVIEW: Sunday night’s alright for a festival exclusive…

Sir Elton John and his band closed Bestival’s 10th anniversary last night with a two-hour set packed with decade-spanning hits.
Feeling: In a rare festival appearance, anticipation levels were already high for this show evident with the biggest main stage crowd seen all weekend. This was also one of Sir Elton’s first performances since his spell with appendicitis this summer which made the moment he appeared on stage on the Isle Of Wight all the more joyful.
The Look: Donning the glitz we all hoped he would, Sir Elton appeared wearing a blue glittered jacket bearing the title of his 1971 LP Madman Across The Water on the reverse over a shirt and black trousers, naturally trimmed with more sequins.

Tunes: Kicking off with The Bitch Is Back, this show was hit after hit. Tiny Dancer, Candle In The Wind, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me, I’m Still Standing, Crocodile Rock and Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting all got the audience, young and old, singing along.
His latest single Home Again was accompanied sing-along lyrics on the huge screens, a nice touch to keep his captivated audience all the more captive.
Banter: Proclaiming that he hasn’t “done a festival in England since 1969. The only reason I decided to do this is because it's a great festival. I love Rob Da Bank for making it a great success story,” Sir Elton also thanked the hordes for his “amazing life and career thanks to you guys” before giving the tens of thousands in the crowd Your Song as an encore.
Sweat Factor: As Sir Elton sang, warm, happy feelings, became tangible in the air. Couples embraced and teenagers danced. Less a sweat factor but a fun factor.
Special Guests: Who needs special guests when Elton John is on stage?!
Summary: Having just days previously been honoured with the first Brits Icon Award, Sir Elton proved why he’s such an iconic figure in British musical history last night. A perfect finale and compliment to the eclectic main stage performers this weekend, which included headline sets from Fatboy Slim on Friday and Snoop Dogg on Saturday, Bestival always manages to leave a smile on every single face. Here’s to next year!
