EMAs 05: And The Winners Are...

Green Day And Coldplay lead the way

Green Day and Coldplay have emerged as the big winners on the night, at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2005 with two gongs each.
Green Day, who rocked the ceremony with a performance of 'Holiday', picked up the awards for Best Album ('American Idiot') and Best Rock.
Coldplay bagged Best Song ('Speed Of Sound') and fended off the likes of Kaiser Chiefs and James Blunt to walk home with the Best UK & Ireland Act.
Others leaving Lisbon with big smiles on their famous faces are Robbie Williams who picked up Best Male and The Black Eyed Peas who nabbed Best Pop.
This year's Free Your Mind award went to the legend that is Bob Geldof.
Gorillaz meanwhile may be somewhat disgruntled that they only managed to convert five nominations into one award, Best Group, but I'm sure they'll take heart in the fact that they were responsible for one of the most impressive performances of the night.
The full list of winners is as follows:
Best Male - Robbie Williams
Best Female - Shakira
Best Group - Gorillaz
Best Rock - Green Day
Best Hip-Hop - Snoop Dogg
Best Alternative - System of a Down
Best Song - Speed of Sound (Coldplay)
Best R&B - Alicia Keys
Best Pop - Black Eyed Peas
