EMAs 2005: The Show Highlights Part 2
Shakira looks slamming, Robbie runs about and System of a Down tear down the house
The first half of the MTV Europe Music Awards 2005 was hotter than Beyonce in a toaster. But how about the second half...
So with everyone still a bit sweaty from Green Day's performance, things mellowed for a few minutes with awards for Chemical Brothers (Best Video) and Shakira (Best Female), who was almost as shocked as she is fit.
But the calm didn't last for long, as it was time for the next performance from one Mr Robbie Williams. Never one for shy performances, Robbie was true to form as he belted out 'Tripping' with loads of running around the stage and this year's first and only stage dive! He barely made it back on stage, with fans practically tearing the clothes from his back. Good on you, Rob. He was rewarded not long after with the award for Best Male. But not before MTV honoured a true legend - Bob Geldof.
Bob was the recipient of this year's Free Your Mind award following the enormous success of Live 8 earlier this year. The award was presented to Bob by his good friend Madonna, who also presented him with a massive hug and kiss as he collected his gong to deafening applause.
Borats highlight of the night then arrived as the President of Kazakhstan appeared on stage. One unfortunate member of the audience who refused to remain silent (out of respect, naturally) was dragged up and spanked by the host. Ouch! The Black Eyed Peas were next to perform, showing Lisbon how lovely and lumpy Fergie's humps are, followed by Foo Fighters who did what they do best - rock like theyre on fire! With impressive green lasers beaming all around them, Foos thrashed the hell out of their hit 'D.O.A', interrupted briefly in the middle of the song by Borat who told Dave Grohl he was lost.
Borat then got a helping hand in the hosting stakes as Hollywood star Brittany Murphy stepped in as his glamorous aide, looking stunning in a shiny silver dress.
Coldplay were next to receive some EMAs love as they picked up Best Song ('Speed Of Sound') before Shakira took to the stage to shake her moneymaker.
Fast-forward through Borat hosting a link while on the toilet taking a dump backstage, and an award for Best Portuguese Act, and we're on to the final award of the night Best Group which goes to Gorillaz. "Best group and we dont even exist." Said Gorillaz illustrator Jamie Hewlitt.
So to the MTV Europe Music Awards' closing performance which comes care of hairy Armenians System Of A Down. They rocked. Hard.
All that remained was for Borat to bid farewell to the Lisbon audience, and indeed the world, with cries of "I love sex", "I kiss you all", and "I'm going to go backstage and try and enter Brittany Murphy's Shakira!" (he earlier explained that 'Shakira' means 'vagina' in his native tongue) before flying over the audience in a makeshift jet pack.
Another so another EMAs is done and dusted. Pass the oxygen.
Goodnight Lisbon!
