Go Backstage At The 2014 MTV EMA!

Want to know what goes on behind-the-scenes at the 2014 MTV EMA? Well, we have the answers…

The 2014 MTV EMA is just ONE DAY away, and before the likes of Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran grace the stage at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, we’ve got some backstage secrets to share!

A lot of preparation goes into making the EMA one ofthe biggest global music events of the year, with tomorrow'sevent carrying a time travel theme.

The set has been designed by celebrated German stage and set designerFlorian Wieder,who was also responsible forMTV EMAset designs in Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Liverpool and Amsterdam.

It is due to beone of thebiggest sets EVER inMTV EMAhistory, measuring 50m wide by 20m high, backed with agiant high resolution LED screenand over30m of transparent gauze.

To power the show, nearly10,000kilometresof cablehave beenlaid down and1,200 flight case boxeshave beenused to transport equipment such as lights, cameras and tripods.

30 HD camerasare used to shoot the showand40 TV screenshave been installed backstage.

To ensure a truly explosive 20thanniversary celebration, theMTV EMAwill be ignited by600 pyrotechnicsduring the main showincluding spitfire flames, air flame explosionsandsmoke storm machines.

[related]The 40 personMTV EMAprofessional makeup artist teamhas spent over 500 hours with internationally renowned make-up artist andMTV EMAguru, Glam Squad’sDebbie Dannell.

Collectively, the Glam Squad has racked up over80 yearsof experience working on the show with many professional makeup artists returning to the show year after year from all over Europe!

The team includes a specialist graffiti artist –The Urbanist– who has a unique way of treating the human body as a living canvas!

Despite the scale of the event, an intimate team of15 wardrobe staffhave worked around the clock to produce more than80 costumesfor dancers, presenters and artists.

The team has used over200 metresof fabric,50 metresof chiffon and1,000 hand-sewn rhinestones.

This year's troupe of30 dancers, selected byMTV EMAveteranAicha McKenzieofAMCK(from 700+ who auditioned!)will be choreographed by Kristin Denehy.

Dancers will perform with giant headdresses–whilst fire-juggling–4 metres up in the air(but fortunately not at the same time!)
