One Direction Named EMA Best UK & Ireland Act

Now the 1D boys will be going head-to-head with other European acts…

One Direction have been voted the Best UK And Ireland Act ahead of the 2012 MTV EMA.

Speaking to MTV, the band's Louis Tomlinson said,

"We're so happy and incredibly honoured to have won this. Once again our amazing fans have done us proud - thanks so much as always to you all!"

The 1D boys will now be pitted against the winners from other European territories for the chance to represent the region in the Worldwide Act category at the awards, and fans can vote from now until October 30th to choose who goes through for Europe at www.mtvema.com.

The representative for Europe will be announced on Tuesday, October 30th, along with the other regional winners from Latin America, North America, Asia Pacific and Africa/India/Middle East. These five regional nominees will then battle for votes for the 'Worldwide Act' title, with the overall winner named during the show.

Taylor Swift, Muse, No Doubt, Carly Rae Jepsen, fun. and Rita Ora are all confirmed to perform at the 2012 MTV EMA, with more performers and presenters still to be announced.

Hosted by supermodel and hometown girl Heidi Klum, the 2012 MTV EMA will broadcast live from Frankfurt’s historic Festhalle on Sunday, 11th November at 9PM - only on MTV.
