The thriller puts Watson alongside 'The Fifth Estate' star Daniel Bruhl as a husband and wife team during the brutal Chilean military coup of 1973 which saw Augusto Pinochet seize control of the South American nation.
When Bruhl's character is abducted by the secret police and sent to a little known region known as Colonia, Watson endeavours to rescue him...which means joining a mysterious cult in the process.
While Watson has played supporting parts in such films as 'The Bling Ring' and 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower', 'Colonia' sees the A-lister once again taking the spotlight in a role that has Oscar buzz written all over it.
