There were two chick flicks this year that got the girls going to cinemas in droves and scored big cash at the box office: Mamma Mia! and Sex and the City: The Movie.

By the end of 2008 Mamma Mia!- a musical set to classic Abba hits- had become the highest grossing film and the fastest selling DVD of all time in the UK. It starred Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and newcomer Amanda Seyfried.

Sex and the City: The Movie was also a big hit on both sides of the Atlantic (despite mixed reviews) taking nearly $500 million at the cinema. After years of rumours about the four main stars falling out the movie eventually materialised.

Now reports say Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda will all return for a sequel. Boyfriends across the land are hoping it doesnt
