Estelle Drops Down US Chart
She struggles to Shine in the charts and talks to MTV News about the Mercury Prize
Estelle- one of our favourite artists of 2008- has dramatically dropped down the US chart after her label took her music off iTunes. The UK singers hit American Boy featuring Kanye West went from number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 to lowly number 37. Estelles album Shine also fell over 100 places in the US album chart to 159. Warner Records reportedly took the album off the download service to encourage physical sales. Meanwhile our gal is one of the favourites to win the Mercury Prize for album of the year next week. Estelle recently told MTV News: I hope I win, who doesnt hope they win, if youre nominated? But Im happy because I think people could of taken the album as a quick pop thing- It clearly isnt. I really would love to win it, but I dont mind as long as who ever wins is creative and ground breaking and going to show the kids something for the future then it really doesnt matter. The Mercury Prize winner will be announced next Tuesday September 9 with Elbow, Neon Neon and Radiohead all competing for the prestigious honour.
