Is The UK's Eurovision Entry Really As Bad As Everyone Says?

Duo representing Britain in song contest defend their ditty...

We British have learned not to get too hopeful when the Eurovision Song Contest rolls around each year - with a decidedly poor track record in recent times.

However the reaction to this year's effort - Still In Love With You by Electro Velvet - has been harsh even by the standards of our sceptical media.

The Guardian called the upbeat pop track "nightmarish", while The Independent branded it "instantly forgettable" and actor Mark Gatiss weighed in to comment: "Just heard our Eurovision entry. Doomed again."

But singer Alex Larke was defiant and welcomed the negative opinions.

He told the BBC - who picked the song: "I like the fact it divides opinion. It's better than everyone having apathy for it."

And Bianca Nicholas, who also features on the duet, added: "There's a lot of ballads this year, so our song will stand out."

The jaunty tune was written by David Mindel, an experienced jingle writer whose credits include the theme tunes for theNational Lottery Live.
