Rap star Lil' Wayne is the front runner with an impressive eight Grammy Award Nominations including album of the year, which represents multiple genres including rap, R&B, folk & rock.
Coldplay are in close contention after getting seven nominations, and Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West were just behind with six nods.
The nominations for the 51st Grammy Awards were announced on prime-time television as part of "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! " Countdown To Music's Biggest Night." Rap star and previous Grammy Winner LL Cool J was joined by Taylor Swift to host the telecast.
Presenters and performers on the night included music superstars Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Foo Fighters, B.B. King, John Mayer, and Swift.
The 51st Annual Grammy Awards will be held on "Grammy Sunday," 08 Feb 2009, at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
