11 Reasons Why Life Is Better After You Unfollow Your Ex On Social Media
Think of the opportunities and possibilities that arise once you unfollow your pesky ex on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat and don't have to lay eyes on their awful face ever again… we're not bitter or anything...
Sometimes, you just end up single. It could be out of the blue, or through no fault of your own. But before your Saturday nights turn into major ex stalkathons – it’s probably time to call it quits.
Join us on 'Unfollow Your Ex Day' on 16th August, which also happens to be the premiere of the new series of Ex On The Beach. And no, you can’t follow them again on the 17th…
1. Out of sight, out of mind…
If your ex became your ex because they decided to dump you for someone new, chances are you don't want them to be constantly popping up on your timeline looking happy as larry with their new bae at that music concert which they originally bought the tickets for you to go to as your birthday present (not speaking from experience or anything…*cough*). Unfollowing them means they will start to become a distant memory...
2. You will tone down the crazy
You might still be a tad obsessed with what your ex is up to. Breaking the habit from checking their social media will stop you from thinking: 'oh they've just checked into Starbucks on Facebook, maybe I'll take a trip down there and 'bump' into them'. So if you've got a touch of psycho in you and have a habit of drunk tweeting them "I MISS YOOSUU", it's probably for the best.
3. They'll hopefully tone down theirs too…
By unfollowing them, they'll probably decide to unfollow you too. Or even better, just block them. They can't see exactly what you're doing or turn up at your friend's birthday meal (because you've posted a few pictures on Instagram and added the location) to beg for you back. Because you know, you're great.
4. Your friends will be ecstatic
Sometimes being in a relationship means you slightly dismissed your squad for a while. Your single friends will be ecstatic at the return of their BFF, so now's the time to be back doing what you do best, which is achieving ultimate #squadgoals.
5. You can't stalk their new amazing life without you
Not being able to see any of their pictures after the demise of your relationship is rather handy. No seeing them having the best time at parties, surrounded by new potential GFs/BFs now they're newly single and you can get back to your night in with your cat, a tub of Ben & Jerrys and Netflix without feeling bad. Perfect.
6. You can't see if they've joined the gym
We all know after a break-up, you experience eating-two-whole-pizzas-in-a-night moments, usually followed by a serious health kick in order to make the other one jealous. Sometimes this might turn into a new lifestyle and they start posting pictures of their new summer bod on Instagram and you suddenly feel the urge to contact them again. Prevent that at all costs.
7. You don't have to revamp your social media
Once you see your ex living it up on social media, it makes you feel like you have to compete. Making your Instagram profile blogger/model/celeb-worthy is hard work, and the only reason behind this is because your ex 'might' see your new lavish life, and want a piece of it again. There will be no urge to do so and you'll save valuable minutes/hours of your precious life.
8. There's no danger of accidentally liking their new bae's pic
Accidentally liking a photo from two years ago whilst stalking their new GF/BFs profile is just plain embarassing. Your ex would probably find out. You'd look weird. Get your friends to scope them out if you have to, but there will be no risk of any of these heart-stopping moments on your behalf.
9. You don't have to see their face ever again
Your ex is your ex for a reason, and if they're not friends with all of your BFFs, then you probably won't bump into them a lot. If that stupid haircut or patchy beard really bothered you, imagine a life without having to see that everyday. RESULT.
10. All good memories of them can become a distant memory
Trust us on this one, their social media was probably filled with wonderful memories of the pair of you - holidays, lazy sunday selfies and pictures of your matching tattoos. You just don't need all those good memories in your life, be done with them, MOVE ON. Honestly, we're not bitter...
11. You can finally focus on you
There was probably a valid reason why you broke up, so it's the best start to moving onwards and upwards with your life and focusing on yourself and everything else that's important to you. You'll start enjoying life without all that hassle, reuniting with friends or taking up a new hobby. You can also prove to your new bae that your ex is just not a part of your life anymore.
