There's Just Been A TOTAL Facebook Crackdown On Revenge Porn

Change is coming to FB, Messenger AND Instagram...

Yesterday Facebook announced that new FB, Messenger and Instagram tools have been introduced to crack down on revenge porn, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

They’re introducing a new easy reporting systemthat will mean if you ever see a pic that was taken without the consent of the person featuring, users can report it and specially trained FB representatives can review and remove it.

There’ll also be a photo-matching technology so that they can track where the offensive image has been shared and prevent further sharing. Not only that, but they said they would DISABLE the accounts of those that shared it in many cases.

Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Scarlett Johansson, Rihanna, Paris Hilton and Mischa Barton are just some of the MANY celebs who have been victims of revenge porn. Having private photos leaked seems to have become just another inevitable part of being a female celeb these days which is totally NOT cool.

Although it has increasingly been called ‘revenge porn’, releasing someone else’s private pics doesn’t have to be about REVENGE – in celeb cases hackers will do it just for fame or glory or some sh*t. But often revenge porn happens when an ex-partner or someone the victim knows shares their private photos or videos without their consent, as a way of getting back at or undermining them.

Revenge or no revenge, the main point is that private pics/vids are shared without consent. Being a victim of revenge porn can make you feel violated and powerless.

And, if the thought of strangers oggling your naked bod/ private sex acts wasn’t horrific enough, many victims of revenge porn are then made to feel ASHAMED for taking the pics/ vids in the first place – despite the fact that they were obvs very private and not meant for anyone else’s eyes.

So yeah, revenge porn is horrendous and we couldn’t be happier that Facebook is stepping up to prevent it from spreading on it’s main site, Messenger and Instagram. It’s high time it’s treated as the crime it is.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg posted this statement to FB yesterday:
