Fan Account Of The Week: @LouisT91Updates
Since One Direction announced their indefinite hiatus back in 2015 we’ve been following the boys’ individual journeys to see what they’re getting up to.
And so have all the 1D fan accounts out there, including this week’s featured one, @LouisT91Updates.We caught up with the people behind the account, check out our interview…
Who runs the account?
The account was started by 3 fans, but as the account gained more followers, more fans were brought on board! We now have 9 people from 5 countries running the account.
Tracy R. (Florida), Caty D. (Maryland), Eethan (Florida), Rachel M. (Australia), Olivia G. (England), Jamille B. (Brazil), Erika D. (Chicago), Laura W. (England), Miya T. (Toronto).
How long have you been fans of Louis Tomlinson?
We have all become fans at different times, but most of us have been fans of One Direction since 2011. Whilst some of us may have been here for less time, we are all equally passionate about Louis and his solo endeavors (and as part of 1D when they come back from their hiatus of course!).
Why are you a fan of Louis Tomlinson?
So, so, so many reasons. We all agree that we can’t easily put our love and admiration for him into words. But if we had to narrow it down, his amazing singing and songwriting talents, his kind and genuine nature, his dedication to his family, friends and fans and his cheeky sense of humor are top of the list. He’s also incredibly charitable, whether it be hosting events or donating significant amounts of his own money to organisations such as Believe in Magic, Eden Dora Trust, Bluebell Wood etc. We could go on for hours about why we’re fans of Louis, if anyone would let us!
How much time do you devote to running the account?
Lots. The amount of time we individually spend daily can range from one to 20 hours each, depending on what is happening. Because we’re primarily an update account, much of our activity is dictated by what Louis is doing - events, social media activity, fan interactions, news articles and performances as well as posting originally developed content such as video edits and artwork. However, there is so much more to running an update account that may not always be apparent.
We actively support and promote charity drives, participate in fan projects - such as Project 'Just Hold On' - working with other social media accounts across multiple platforms (Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram) to co-promote activities and events and up-skill on relevant industry knowledge. For example, after the release of Louis’ solo EDM track, ‘Just Hold On’, one of us became an ‘expert’ in how the UK/US Official Charts are compiled, streaming services and digital downloads, to help us, help our followers, to promote the single!
The account operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (we never sleep!!). We can achieve this as we have strategically selected co-owners for the account from across the globe so we have full time-zone coverage. Having such a wide reach means we need to have excellent communication - it’s not unusual to wake up and find 500+ messages in our group chat!!
Has Louis Tomlinson ever noticed the account? Retweeted? Liked? If so, when?
Yes!! We’re so grateful to say that Louis has interacted with our account a few times! In fact, just yesterday Louis replied to one of our tweets!! Also, this past December we were in full swing promoting 'Just Hold On' and he quote-tweeted our account when we were encouraging our followers to gift his single with Steve Aoki (available on iTunes now!). We have also started numerous twitter trends with #LuckyToHaveLouis trending #1 worldwide last year which Louis’ late mother Johannah acknowledged.
How did that make you feel?
We were so incredibly proud and quite a few members of our account shed more than a few tears. It’s certainly gratifying to see our hard work being acknowledged, but it’s even more amazing knowing Louis has seen how much we love and support him.
When he quote-tweeted our tweet regarding gifting copies of his single on iTunes, the boost received in the number of sponsors and recipients signing up was phenomenal - in the thousands. This was great for his single of course, but the number of people that could then receive a free copy of the song, people who would not have otherwise been able to afford it, and from a complete stranger, that’s what made it so special.
Have you ever met Louis Tomlinson?
Laura has met Louis once in 2015 and three times in 2016. Miya has met Louis once in 2015. They both rave about how lovely he is in person and how he gives the absolute best hugs! We all hope to get our chance to meet him one day.
Have you seen him perform live with One Direction? If so, how many times?
Our team has seen him perform with One Direction, but also solo on The X Factor! To see Louis live, our members have traveled across state lines, country lines, oceans and even hemispheres, and some have done this multiple times! Collectively, we have seen Louis perform live over 50 times and we can’t wait for the next 50 times!
What’s your favourite song and why?
We have two! (cut us some slack - there are 9 of us!)
The first song is called ‘Home’ which was released on the Perfect EP, written by Louis, his One Direction band mate Liam Payne, and singer-songwriter Jamie Scott. The song means so much to so many One Direction/Louis Tomlinson fans, considering it quite literally makes people feel at home. The song is especially poignant to fans that identify as LGBTQ+, who can unfortunately struggle to feel at home.
Our other favorite song by Louis is ‘Just Hold On’, a collaboration with the incredibly talented (and all round awesome guy) Steve Aoki. It’s one of the best EDM/dance tracks we’ve ever heard. The song was written by Louis during the time his mother, Johannah Deakin, was terminally ill. Johannah passed away December 7th, 2016, and Louis bravely went on to perform the song live on The X Factor with Steve Aoki on December 10th, 2016, dedicating the performance to her memory. With such a positive message and emotional meaning behind it, it’s hard to not favor the upbeat song.
What makes Louis Tomlinson different to other artists?
What most people don’t give boy bands credit for is the creation of their own songs. Louis Tomlinson may be known as a singer, but he is also an avid songwriter. Louis co-wrote 38 of One Direction’s 90 songs, more than any other member of the group, with his band mates co-writing 34 (Liam Payne), 19 (Harry Styles) and 15 (Niall Horan) each.
His music continuously provides a safe place for his fans. What’s the best part? He’s thankful that he’s able to create safe places and homes for his fans. His entire Twitter feed is filled with him thanking and praising the fans that love and support him just as much they do in return. As fans of Louis Tomlinson, there has never been a time where we have felt unappreciated or not part of his team. Louis knows how hard the fans work to support him and he constantly acknowledges those efforts.
“It’s a teamwork, between us and them.” - Louis Tomlinson.
How excited are you for more of Louis’s solo material?
On a scale of 1-10? 130 million!! (Which is also the amount of streams 'Just Hold On' currently has. You should go stream it, too!). We’ve been dreaming about this since Louis’ first cover of The Fray’s Look After You. It means so much to us that Louis feels confident enough to bless us with his amazing solo work. He’s tweeted about how nervous he was to release his single, but we hope the incredible reaction to 'Just Hold On' is enough to tell him: WE NEED MORE, YOU TALENTED BOY. We all instantly fell in love with 'Just Hold On', as did most of the world. We are so excited to see what other beats and lovely lyrics Louis has in store for us. 2017 is truly Louis Tomlinson’s year.
