Fan Account Of The Week: @1DGPSOfficial
This week's featured fan account is dedicated to One Direction...
This week we are featuring another fan account dedicated to One Direction, but this time it’s the entire band.
@1DGPSOfficial have been following the boy band since 2012 and are still going strong during the 1D hiatus.
Check out our interview with the person behind the account below:
Who runs the account?
My name is Brittney! I started this account back in 2012 with another girl named Genivieve. Since then, we've been through multiple co-owners on the account trying to develop a good team to run the account. With the boys being so international, we thought it'd be appropriate to make the account just as international. With the boys on their hiatus, our account went a somewhat similar one.
However, our greatest team of co-owners was an 8 person team consisting of myself, from FL in the US, Jessica from the US, McKayla from the US, Alex from Mexico, Dani from the UK, Micaela from Australia, Tayla from Australia & Grace from Australia! It was important for us to have so many people from so many different places for a couple reasons. One being that with our different time zones, the account had 'full coverage'. Someone was always on the account at any given time so as not to miss anything big to report to other fans!
How long have you been a fan of One Direction?
I, myself have been a fan since 2011 when I was streaming The X Factor in my senior year economics class. Sorry, Mr. Williams!
Why are you a fan of One Direction?
I'm a fan of One Direction for many more reasons than I could probably write for this interview. The most easy of answers though - it was sort of inevitable. I didn't wake up one day thinking, hey let me fall in love with this boy band and let them take over my life. "That was it. It just kind of happened."
How much time do you devote to running the account?
ENTIRELY TOO MUCH! Most of the other co-owners are taking breaks themselves (I've taken my fair share of breaks) so I'm sort of the only one on the account at the moment. THANK GOD FOR TWITTER MOBILE. I used to stay awake on my computer until 5 or 6 in the morning making sure someone else was on the account and not a beat was missed. That, however was when I was younger and didn't have two jobs, college coursework and a two year old child. Things have changed drastically for all of us, but I'm still typically on and off of the account all throughout the day whenever I have a few moments to spare.
What’s your favourite One Direction song and why?
Wow; this is a crazy question with probably no definite answer. For interview purposes, I'd probably go with ‘Don't Forget Where You Belong’ because it is pretty much the anthem for our fandom for not only the boys, but also for each other. It is important to remember where we all came from & what our common ground is. (I also love ‘If I Could Fly’, ‘Infinity’, ‘Love You Goodbye’, ‘Over Again’, ‘Fool's Gold’, ‘Diana’, ‘What A Feeling’, ‘Cmon Cmon’, ‘Last First Kiss’, ‘Home’ and so many others!)
What makes One Direction different to other bands?
Everything. One Direction (or OT4 as we like to call them) are completely different than any other band I've ever come across. It is truly a shame that they have this strange stigma attached to them that people write them off before actually getting to know them or investing any time in trying to do so. If you want to see charisma, kindness, respect, empathy and love for everyone they come across - you're in the right place.
All 4 of them are some of the sweetest, most genuinely kind hearted young men I've ever met. Its a shame because I'm the same age as Harry and you look at Harry Styles then back to the boys your age in your town and everyone's just uninteresting at that point. The love and sincerity they have for their fans is over the top.
They are truly thankful for the things this fandom does for them and have never ceased to show that to us. Never have we questioned their sincerity with us because they never let us. They are constantly showing us that they appreciate us just as much as we appreciate them.
The fandom has a joke where it's almost a constant argument between us and Louis thanking each other. "It's a team work between us and them." Whereas we have sold out arenas, participated in flash mobs, fan projects and charity drives (which they're thankful for), they've pulled many of us out of depressions, they've gotten us through major life events, they've given us somewhere to belong and somewhere to feel like home when some of us have had nobody else to turn to. Our fandom (despite the dramatic psychopaths we're painted out to be) is truly a family.
Are there other One Direction fan accounts you follow and recommend?
One of my favourite to follow is @1DNeews. They've been around from the beginning and have grown to be a truly amazing account!
