MTV Message Boards

All MTV Message boards or Forums are moderated against content that is libelous, offensive or obscene. For all your do’s and don’ts when using any of the message boards please click here or see below.

Posts which contain any of the following will be removed from the message boards:

1 – Expressions of hatred towards those with physical, mental or sensory disabilities, racial, homosexual, ethnic, national, religious or other groups will be deleted. No discrimination of any kind will be tolerated.

2 - Postings of any personal details such as your number, MSN/email/home address. You can post your name, town and any gamer ids/tags but please use caution.

3 – Details of people trying to meet up.

4 - Messages that contain overly offensive sexual content.

5 – Obvious advertising or unauthorised commercial posting.

6 – Posts inciting religious hatred

7 - Discussions that encourage, promote or provide information about illegal or criminal activities.

8 – Posts recommending drug use to others or suggesting that others might, should or would enjoy using illegal drugs.

9 – Smoking or the abuse of alcohol should not be overly glamorized. Those under the legal age to drink will not be able to post about alcohol.

10 - Links to external websites that lead to anything inappropriate or in breach of the community guidelines.

11 - The use of language which is obscene, threatening, sexual, sexist, libellous, defamatory, or invasive of another person’s privacy.

12 – Song lyrics will be removed due to copyright. A verse or chorus is ok, but not whole songs.

13 – Any posts directed at another user that’s deemed to be harassment.

14 – Posts containing threats of violence or talk of incidents involving violence must be deleted

15 - Posts containing talk of suicide or self harm

16 - It is not permitted for users to impersonate or pretend to be any other user, MTV staff member or personality.

17 - Posts in foreign languages will be deleted – unfortunately we cannot accept messages that we are not able to understand.

18 – Any posts containing content which could be regarded as public fear or terrorist threats will be removed and reported

Here are a few definitions of some of the terms used above:
a. Libel / Defamation
When moderating you should be extremely aware at all times of potential defamatory postings regarding personalities that may be in the media spotlight as well as brands.

b. Copyright
Reproduction of a protected work (including written or spoken words, emails, postings, translations, even dictionary definitions and lyrics) is not allowed – even if message credits the author.

c. Contempt of Court
This is most likely to affect when there is a high profile court case in front of a jury. We can’t allow ANY comment about such cases. All that can be reported are the facts of the case that are already before the court and which have been heard in evidence.

d. Harassment / Privacy Law
This includes the right to not be harassed. Any message that includes personal information about either the sender, or someone other than the sender should be removed.

e. Inciting Racial Hatred
Any racist material of any nature should be immediately deleted.

f. Obscenity & Indecency
Any obscene material, relating to race, religion and offensive sexual material must be removed immediately

Please note that if you do not adhere to the Code of Conduct then we may remove any offensive or inappropriate content posted by you on the website without notifying you of our intention to do so.

How can I contact the admin users?

The admin users work for MTV and are here to maintain the message boards as well as to help you find your way around and answer any questions you may have regarding the site and its uses.

If you want to ask them for help or guidance then feel free to contact one of them who will help you out. You can do this by:

1. Logging in
2. Go to one of the above admin profiles
3. Click on ‘mail this person’ button on the left hand side

Or alternatively keep an eye out for them on the message boards.

How do I report a user?

If someone has been abusive toward you, you can easily report them:

1. Go to the offending user’s profile
2. Click the ‘report this user for abuse’ button on the left hand side
3. Leave details of the problem along with the user’s name.

You can also email the MTV team through the ‘contact’ link at the bottom of the webpage.

How do I report inappropriate content?

If you’ve found something inappropriate or offensive on any of the MTV message boards you should do one of the following:

1. Click on the users profile and then click on the ‘‘report this user for abuse’ button on the left
2. Leave details about the offending content including where you found it and any relevant URLs (website address) so we can investigate
