Zayn Malik To Design A Fashion Collection With Versace
Better start saving those pennies because the one and only Zayn Malik has just announced his first big time fashion collection, and it just so happens to be with the iconic Italian fashion house Versace.
As a regular on the Versace FROW at Fashion Week, it's no surprise that the former One Direction singer has been hand-picked by Donatella herself to collaborate with the label on a capsule collection of womens and menswear which will simply be called Zayn X Versace.
With a slew of celebs including Zayn's girlfriend Gigi teaming up with brands for collections, it's an interesting part on Versace's move, although with his chart-topping album and mysterious yet stylish persona, you can see exactly why they'd want him to help front Versace Versus, which is the slightly younger and edgier offshoot of the main Versace brand.
“Versus is the rock and roll soul of the Versace family and has always been associated with music,” she tells the New York Times. “Everyone from the Foo Fighters to Lenny Kravitz has played at the shows, and it is all about rebellion. For me, Zayn was the perfect fit.
Apparently Donatella's been insterested in Zayn since his 1D days after she met both he and Harry in person, and was intrigued by his strong and silent demeanour.
“That said, I was not exactly a fan of that band,” she continues. “But then I met him again when he started to date Gigi, who I work with all the time. And he impressed me very much — he was so mature, so thoughtful, treated her like such a gentleman. They are very nice young people, a lovely couple, in fact. And then he told me how much he loved fashion. It was then I knew he was the right face for what I had in mind.
“Many celebrities do clothing lines that just aren’t relevant. This one? It will be. He’s smart to do it with me.”
Oh Donatella, you big tease.
The collection will be shown next spring, presumably at Fashion Week, and will then be available online and in stores come May. Additionally, Zayn will star in the next two Versus advertising campaigns; the first, for the SS17 collection, which will debut in February, and the second will appear later in the year.
“I think Versus has always been a very cool brand and is a great brand for me and for people in my generation,” Zayn says, explaining why the collab caught his interest.
“I’ve always wanted to design clothes and there’s no brand I’d rather design for than Versus. I like to learn about things I’m interested in and I enjoy being around creative people so I think it will be cool. The bonus is that I get to collaborate with Donatella, whom I love and admire. I know we’ll create something amazing.”
