5 Acts We Loved At EXIT Festival 2019
EXIT Festival on the world famous Petrovaradin Fortress once again became a musical haven for visitors from all over the world. The festival, which has been among the top European and world music festivals for years, brought top hitmakers and musical legends to its Main Stage such as The Cure, The Chainsmokers, Chase & Status RTRN II Jungle, Lost Frequencies and many more, as well as the biggest electronic acts to the colossal mts Dance Arena including Carl Cox, Solomun, Peggy Gou and others. Read on for our top picks from one of Europe’s biggest festivals...
The Cure
Fresh from headlining Glastonbury Festival 2019, The Cure were one of the acts we absolutely had to see at EXIT this year. Known for their lengthy hit-filled sets, Serbian fans of The Cure were treated to nothing short of an epic set from the iconic five piece. Frontman Robert Smith is mesmerising as he effortlessly ploughs through their back catalogue including tracks such as ‘Pictures Of You’, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ and of course, none other than ‘Friday I’m In Love’. The band played a whopping 28 (!!!) songs, with 8 of them being in the encore. The Cure are, and always will be, a force to be reckoned with at any festival they perform at.
Chase & Status
Chase & Status are a treat on any festival line-up, and since the release of RTRN II JUNGLE earlier this year their sets have been taken to a whole new level. At this year’s EXIT festival they put on a killer set, featuring some of the artists they’re championing under the RTRN II JUNGLE banner, curating a show that went on for hours as the Serbian crowd danced into the early hours of the morning. Of course, they played old classics such as ‘Problem’, but their newer material from the aforementioned record when down just as smoothly.
The Chainsmokers
WOW. just WOW. That is probably the only way to describe The Chainsmokers set at EXIT 2019. With enough energy to play all night, The Chainsmokers treated us to hit after hit including ‘Something Just Like This’, ‘Call You Mine’ and fan-favourite, ‘Closer’, along with an incredible pyrotechnic show to match. There were fireworks, smoke cannons, and Alex even jumped into the middle of the crowd to the everyone'sexcitement! They said themselves that this was one of their top 3 shows of the year, and we were so glad we were there!
Peggy Gou
Peggy said on Instagram that she left her “heart in Serbia”, but she definitely stole ours too! With a crowd that was surely one of the largest of the festival, Peggy wowed the mts Dance Arena at EXIT with her unique techno/house mixes, demonstrating why she is one of the best DJs in the scene. Her final track ‘Starry Night’ was a particular highlight, with an electric energy from the crowd.
Lost Frequencies
Felix De Laet, more popular known as the international superstar DJ, Lost Frequencies, took to the (very big!) stage at EXIT festival this summer and gave us a show to remember. Not only does Felix capture the crowd’s attention with his mixes, his infectious high energy sets and ear-to-ear smile makes it impossible to keep your eyes off him. The 25 year old DJ/producer is best known for his hit single ‘Are You With Me’ from 2014 - he revealed to us post-set that after playing a track for so many years he likes to switch it up with a refreshed mix of it, in fact, we were lucky enough to hear this at EXIT and it went down a treat with the Serbian crowds.
