Fever Ray Live Review

HMV Forum London - 05/12/09

Since her live debut under the Fever Ray moniker last March, Karin Dreijer Andersson and her band have spent much of 2009 touring the world, culminating in tonight’s finale in London’s Kentish Town.

Far more than just a side project from Dreijer Andersson’s work as one half of The Knife, Fever Ray - the album, videos, artwork and live show - has arrived as a fully formed whole, with every facet planned and executed to perfection.

The sold-out crowd are treated to a set comprising all 10 tracks on Fever Ray’s eponymous album, along with covers of Nick Cave’s Stranger Than Kindness, Peter Gabriel's Mercy Street and Vashti Bunyan’s Here Before, with particular highlights coming in the shape of When I Grow Up and Seven.

Never speaking, Dreijer Andersson and band manage to keep the atmosphere consistently mysterious, dark and dreamlike, with their shamanic outfits and the stunning use of light, shadow and lasers all helping create an enchanting, enrapturing, organic whole.
