Fan Account Of The Week: @5HVoteStats

These guys LOVE Fifth Harmony...

After spending the first week of MTV Hottest Summer Superstar at the top of the leader board, it's clear to us that Fifth Harmony's fan base are insanely dedicated.

While spending all their energy making sure the 5H girls stay in with a chance of winning the competition, fan accounts such as this week's featured one, @5HVoteStats, also spend a lot of time keeping Harmonisers up to date oneverything that's going on with the band.

You think that being a 5H fan is easy? Think again. We got chatting to the people behind one of Fifth Harmony's biggest fan accounts to find out what it really takes to be successful in the world of fandoms.

Who runs the account?

It was created by Georgia (@lemonadenormani) in early 2015, as it grew more people were added to keep the account active 24/7. First Di, Injila and Sira after a few weeks, and then more recently Dani, Ashley and Brad. That's about how many people it takes it remain active almost every minute of every day!

How long have you been a fan of Fifth Harmony?

Georgia: Around four years now, I heard audio of some of their first youtube covers online, it was their voices that first impressed me. Then watching all their interviews through The X Factor made me love their personalities as well.
Ashley: I first heard of them on the The X Factor, but I didn't really become a HUGE fan until after their EP, Better Together, had been released. After watching their acoustic performances on YouTube, I couldn't help becoming infatuated with them.

Di: I remember them from The X Factor, rooted for them and got 'Miss Movin' On' when it came out. The thing that really got me into them was 'BO$$', I loved the maturity of that song.

Injila: Almost four years. I was randomly looking through The X Factor interviews and came across one of theirs. Their music was good, I really liked it but the 'Reflection' era really got me.

Dani: I've been a fan since The X Factor, so that's 4 years! The 'Impossible' cover they did on the show caught my attention, and that performance was the beginning of me becoming a fan.

Why are you a fan of Fifth Harmony?

G: I love their voices, how their music has developed and the message that they convey in their songs. Girl groups have been an important part of pop culture in inspiring young girls and Fifth Harmony are doing an amazing job of continuing that legacy.

A: I love how different each of their voices are and that they sound extremely beautiful together. Their music has also been a huge factor to me liking them because a lot of their songs convey messages that inspire men and women everywhere to stand up, speak up, and be a 'BO$$'!

Di: Basically their whole persona, from their personalities, to their voices, to their confidence. Everything about them I'm in love, beautiful inside and out. Also Fifth Harmony's songs of course.

D: Fifth Harmony aren't just a 'group', but five woman who use their voice to speak out on what they truly believe in, and that is truly inspiring. Their personalities, their music, basically every aspect that comes from them is why I'm a huge fan.

How much time do you devote to running the account?

Usually a few hours every day but it depends on how busy certain members are or how many awards Fifth Harmony are nominated for which increases every year. Right now we have MTV Hottest, a Billboard award and VMAs and EMAs fast approaching so a lot of time is being put in. Fans start getting worried if we're even off for a few hours!

Have Fifth Harmony ever noticed the account? Retweeted? Liked? If so, when?

Yes, they RT and like our tweets often, one time I deleted a tweet when it didn't format right, not realizing they RT'd! Luckily they waited for me to do it right and RT'd it again! They've also tweeted us to thank us numerous times, usually right after any major awards.

How did that make you feel?

It's really nice knowing that they do recognise how much time we, and all our followers, put in. They also let us know that they appreciate their fans regardless if we're able to win or not - often it feels like we've let them down if we don't win but they always make sure to tell us that they don't care about that because they see our efforts.

Have you ever met any of Fifth Harmony?

G: Yes I met them on tour in the US and at an album signing in the UK, they're always so lovely and no matter how short an amount of time you have with them they make it special for you.

Di: I met them at the First Reflection tour, it was actually twice in a day. First at the signing and after at the venue for the Meet and Greet.

Have you seen them perform live? If so, how many times?

A: Actually it's been almost a whole year since I saw them live for the first and only time. I saw them perform on their Summer Reflection Tour in Bakersfield, CA on August 12 while I was visiting the U.S for vacation.

Di: This upcoming 7/27 tour will be my fifth time seeing them. I saw them on both Reflection tours, the first time I saw them was at a radio party and the second time was at the MTV EMAs pre-show.

What’s your favourite Fifth Harmony song and why?

G: That's such a hard question but it's probably 'I Lied' from 7/27. Just like Reflection was such a step up from their EP, their new album has also grown so much in sound and production, and is really in touch with the styles people are loving this summer with reggae and EDM influences. It's definitely the song I'm most excited to hear live, especially my girl Normani's notes at the end!

A: Honestly, that's an extremely hard question to answer since I love a majority of their songs equally, but if I had to choose one it would be between '1000 Hands' or 'Voicemail'. '1000 Hands' is definitely one of my favourites because it's a simple, yet vulnerable love song. 'Voicemail' is also my favourite because it has an amazing beat and it's an extremely catchy song.

D: Very hard question considering ALL of their music is my favourite, but I'll choose 'That's My Girl'. 'That's My Girl' is a very female empowering song and the production with it is amazing. Definitely a song you can dance to anytime!

Do you think they are good role models?

G: I think they're excellent role models, not just in the moments that they speak up on issues such as Black Lives Matter or gay marriage or gun violence or feminism which are numerous, but also times when they've educated themselves and encouraged us to do so to. They also have beautiful relationships with their families and care deeply for everyone that supports them which is something I hope people learn from them too.

A: DEFINITELY. They are educated on certain topics such as feminism and they use their platform to talk about issues like Black Lives Matter while also encouraging their fans to educate themselves on the topics too. They show it in interviews when some people ask them about "putting more clothes on" and they completely shut down those statements with a different answer than those interviewers expected.

What makes Fifth Harmony different to other girl bands?

G: In terms of current groups, definitely their prominence right now. The move towards girl groups again is something new but it's great to see the number of girl groups emerging from their success and the returning acceptance of them, like Kelly Rowland's new group June's Diary. Kelly said she created her show Chasing Destiny after looking at the music landscape and seeing only Fifth Harmony out there representing girl groups compared to how many there were when Destiny's Child was around. In terms of groups that have come, I think they're definitely more reflective of the time right now. Empowerment in terms of female sexual empowerment is definitely something emerging now and they've embraced and let people who listen to their music know that women shouldn't be shamed about what they wear or how they act.

Are there other Fifth Harmony fan accounts you follow and recommend?

We're part of a network called @5HTogether which is made up of 7 fan accounts who work together for Fifth Harmony who are all great as well as accounts like @5HRealm and @727WorldTour.
