Dakota Johnson On Fifty Shades Abuse Claims: 'Anastasia Is Not A Weak Victim'
The actress hits back over criticism of the movie, stating that Ana is actually a "strong woman"...
Ever since hitting shelves, E L James book has been criticised for its representation of the sadomasochistic relationship between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, played in the flick by Jamie Dornan and Johnson.
When asked about the claims, Dakota told Digital Spy: “I know that a lot of people, before seeing the movie, were thinking that it's promoting abuse and violence, but I think it's actually doing the opposite.
"I really don't think Anastasia is a weak, submissive victim. I think she's a strong woman who is fearlessly exploring herself emotionally and sexually."
Despite Dakota’s remarks, the Fifty Shades premiere - which was held in Leicester Square last night (February 12) - was targeted by domestic abuse campaigners.
Fifty Shades of Grey is out now.
