Fifty Shades of GreyauthorRobert Pattinson to play the part of Christian Grey in the forthcoming adaption of her erotic novel.

Following the news that Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam had landed the coveted role, Bret Easton Ellis has since revealed that James had originally set her sights on R-Pattz.

The American Psycho author took to Twitter to exclaim: "Talked to E.L. James at a party over the summer: her first choice for Christian was Rob Pattinson and Matt Bomer was never in the running."

Pattinson was strongly linked to the part of Christian, after James attended a party at the Twilight actor's home back in June.

As well as Rob, the likes of Ryan Gosling, Garrett Hedlund and Ian Somerhalder were all rumoured to be on the shortlist to portray the dominating businessman.

Dakota Johnson has also been confirmed to play Christian's love interest Anastasia Steele, while Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the flick.

Fifty Shades of Grey is due for release in the US on August 1, 2014.
