Fifty Shades Director Admits On-Set Rows With EL James
Sam Taylor-Johnson says she and author had 'proper barneys' on set...
There may have been some great chemistry between stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan on the set of Fifty Shades Of Grey, but it seems like things didn't go as smoothly between director Sam Taylor-Johnson and the book's author.
Speaking to Porter, Taylor-Johnson confessed that she had crossed swords with EL James on more than one occasion as the film was made.
"It was difficult, I'm not going to lie," she said. "We definitely fought but they were creative fights and we would resolve them.
"We would have proper on-set barneys, and I'm not confrontational, but it was about finding a way between the two of us, satisfying her vision of what she'd written as well as my need to visualise this person on screen but, you know, we got there."
And when asked if she was friends with the author now, she responded with an "ummmm" - before expressing her gratitude when she was told she didn't have to answer the question.
She also revealed that Angelina Jolie had sent her a "good luck" message - despite having wanted the job herself.
"I got an email out of the blue from her saying good luck on your journey," Taylor-Johnson explained.
"I thought that was incredibly sweet of her."
On her desire to bring the hugely popular erotic novel to the big screen, she said: "When I decide I want something I go in like an Exocet missile. I just knew I wanted to make this film.
"I knew how it should be made, needed to be made, and I felt a certain responsibility to make it the right way.
"I felt it was an incredible story. It's like a dark twisted fairy tale, very romantic, and it was interesting how troubling it was, and how romance and the darkness interweaved."
We told you this morning that the movie is reported to feature 20 minutes of sex - which explains why it was given an 18 certificate for the UK.
It will hit cinemas on 13 February.
