Fifty Shades Of Grey Slapped With 18 Certificate In UK

Movie version of bestselling book deemed too kinky for younger viewers...

Fans of Fifty Shades Of Grey who feared that the book's raunchy scenes would be watered down for the big screen might take heart from the fact that it's just been given an 18 certificate in the UK.

The British Board of Film Classification has handed Sam Taylor-Johnson's adaptation of EL James' erotic novel the most restrictive certificate available in this country.

It declared that "the portrayal of erotic role play based on domination, submission and sado-masochistic practices" was unsuitable for those under 18.

And its statement explained that "there are also strong verbal references to such practices and the instruments used".

However it also revealed that the movie had been passed for viewing without any cuts.

In the US the film has been given an "R" rating, meaning that those under 17 can see it if accompanied by an adult.

A scorching hot new trailer was unleashed during the Super Bowl in the US last night, with the movie set to hit cinemas on 13 February.
