The role of Mia will be Rita's biggest acting role to date, having already had a cameo in Fast & Furious 6 earlier this year.
She will now take her place opposite Jamie Dornan - who plays her big brother Christian - and Dakota Johnson, who portrays Anastasia Steele.
Mia appears in all three Fifty Shades books, with the character featuring more towards the end of the trilogy.
The likes of Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Jennifer Ehle have also signed up to join the movie, which is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
Fifty Shades of Grey is due for release on Valentine's Day weekend in 2015.
