Celebrity Workouts IRL: Crystal Sound Bath Meditation
If turning off Instagram notifications isn’t doing enough for your mindfulness, a crystal sound bath could be where it's at. We tried out Sound Sebastien’s luxurious session at The London Edition hotel and felt immediately a little more like Gwyneth Paltrow.
WTF are sound baths?
Sound bathing is an ancient practise where sounds in different frequencies are created by playing crystal alchemy singing bowls – you won't be needing shampoo and a towel for this bath. As the sound waves travel through the space you can feel them vibrating through you, helping your body relax and easing your brain into a state of deep meditation.
Sound Sebastien’s hour long deluxe session also includes aromatherapy with essential oils, some heavenly foot rubs, as well as herbal tea and delicious Ayurvedic snacks after the session. V zen!
Do I need to do anything?
The instructor and the sound do all the work for you. All you need to do is lie down and let loose. If you start thinking about deadlines or the time you accidentally called your boss 'mum', the trick is to let the thoughts come and go. Wear comfortable and warm clothes as it can get a bit chilly when your body temperature drops while meditating.
What are the benefits?
We slept way better following the sound bath, and it was easier to nod off too. It helped us destress and clear busy minds as well as lifting moods. Sound bath practitioners believe an hour-long session has benefits equivalent to three hours of sleep - nice, right? As a side effect you might also feel like choosing herbal tea instead of coffee and muting all those group chats for at least 24 hours.
