11 Health Hacks That Don't Suck Out All The Joy Of Life
It’s the worst when you click on a link that says it can help you be healthier, but turns out to be nothing but a list of what you have to stop eating and sucks the joy out of life completely.
Well fear not - if anything this list encourages you to live your best albeit healthiest life and you won’t see the words ‘cut out’ anywhere.
1. Swap milk choc for 85% dark choc
The more bitter the chocolate, the quicker it will satisfy that sweet tooth. We can all inhale a whole bar of milk choc in seconds but it’s a lot harder to do that with dark. So you can be healthy and still eat choc – huzzah!
2. Drinks at least two litres of water a day in a measured bottle
It mind sound like a lot at first, but this is so doable. Grab a water bottle that measures how much you drink. Have one litre before lunch and one litre after - simples.
3. Portion out your sweets
If you are in desperate need of a sugar fix then pop small portions into sandwich bags so that you won’t over-snack.
4. Drink lemon water first thing
Add some lemon juice to water before your breakfast every morning to refresh your stomach. Lemon aids in digestion and regularity, destroys bacteria and cleanses the system.
5. Eat veggies before a dinner party
If you are worried about slipping in your healthy habit with fries or dessert, eat some vegetables before you head out to fill your stomach up before you start crying the bad stuff.
6. Give the gym ten minutes
If you are REALLY not feeling the gym one day then give yourself ten minutes warming up. Walk uphill on the treadmill or hop on the cross trainer and if you still can’t face it then stop. Most of the time you’ll just end up getting your workout done. You’re there anyway, after all.
7. Stick to booze and soda
Sometimes it’s just not realistic to say you are cutting out alcohol all together. But if you have a drink then stick to spirits and soda water. Vodka, tequila and whisky are the lowest in calories. And stay away from caffeine-filled drinks like Red Bull. Apart from the fact they are high in sugar, they reverse the relaxant effects of alcohol, causing you to drink more.
8. Keep adding ice to naughty drinks
Keep adding ice to your fizzy drinks or alcohol so you don’t feel the need to refill as much. It also waters down the alcohol which will help with that hang.
9. Chew gum to curb cravings
Now, this won’t work if you’re hungry as it will only trick your stomach into thinking you’re eating, increase production of stomach acid and make you hungrier. BUT if your cravings are out of boredom then chew some gum to satisfy the feeling of eating.
10. Put cinnamon in your coffee
If you love a sugar in your coffee then swap it out for cinnamon. Not only is it lower in calories but it boosts your immune system.
11. Put the junk food in hiding
If you can’t see the bad food in your house then the less likely you are to snack on it. Keep healthy snacks that you actually enjoy eating readily available to munch on and keep those bad ones for when you REALLY need them. I.e. your period / you’ve been dumped / it’s Monday.
