Florence Plays Little Noise Session

With Golden Silvers...

Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions continued in style last night at the beautiful Union Chapel in Islington. The evening kicked off with stripped back sets from newcomers Erik Hassle and Ellie Goulding – who performed a gorgeous rendition of her first single Under The Sheets.
London indie kids Golden Silvers then took to the stage armed with male harmonies reminiscent of the Four Seasons. The band played a mixture of unreleased material and songs from their debut album True Romance including the stunning Arrows of Eros – which was beautifully suited to the lo-fi setting.
The main event of the night was courtesy of one of this year’s breakthrough stars, Florence and The Machine. The acoustics of the chapel providing the perfect backdrop for the singer’s powerhouse vocals. Backed by a gorgeous string section and acoustic guitar Flo worked her way through tracks from her acclaimed debut album Lungs.
Standout moments included the spine tingling Cosmic Love and a rousing rendition of Drumming Song minus the drums! The set was rounded off to a standing ovation with current single You’ve Got The Love and the superb Rabbit Heart.
Organised by Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley, money raised from the gigs goes to the charity Mencap, which supports people with a learning disability, and their families and carers.
The final sessions for 09 take place over the next two nights with performers including David Gray, Newton Faulkner and Scouting For Girls.
