US house music pioneer Frankie Knuckles has passed away, aged 59.
The Chicago based DJ - who is often referred to as the Godfather of House - "died unexpectedly" yesterday (March 31), with his longtime business partner Frederick Dunson confirming the news to the Chicago Tribune.
Dunson added that more details concerning his death would be revealed later today.
Knuckles is famous for revolutionising club culture in the '70s and '80s in Chicago, with some of his most iconic productions including the tracks Your Love and Baby Wants To Ride.
He also remixed tracks by Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Depeche Mode.
Chicago-based DJ Vince Lawrence led the tributes to the star, writing on Facebook: "A legend has fallen".
