Frozen Star Idina Menzel Backs #GiveElsaAGirlfriend Campaign
Unless you’ve been living under a rock these last few weeks, you’ll probably be aware of the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend campaign that’s been blowing up Twitter. Well the noise just got louder, with Elsa herself, Idina Menzel, publically backing the movement ahead of Frozen 2.
The brainchild of Twitter user Alexis Isabel, the hashtag was coined to nudge Disney towards making Elsa its first LGBT princess in an animated film, and has been picking up steam ever since. Even more so, now Menzel has had her say…
“I think it's great,” said the star, when asked about the hashtag. “Disney's just gotta contend with that… I'll let them figure that out,” she said, before going on to confirm that she would support the decision, “no matter what”.
25 Crazy Disney Facts That Change Everything
Voice recording began on the sequel back in March, with the plot of the sequel remaining a closely guarded secret. Kristen Bell will be returning alongside Menzel as Elsa’s sister, Anna, as will Josh Gad as Olaf the snowman. Directed by Jennifer Lee, Frozen 2 is expected to land at some point in 2018.
In the meantime we can look forward to a Frozen Christmas TV special, which is scheduled to arrive in 2017.
